TRIP REPORT -- DANCE FOR THE DREAM IN MESA AZ -- FEBRUARY 13, 2010

Jo Thompson Szymanski and Scooter Lee hosted a line dance workshop last Saturday -- Jo and Scooter promote these event as a health seminar rather than a line dance event with line dance as the chosen form of exercise. As many of you probably know, Jo is coming back from a few years of severe health problems and Scooter has lost about 80 pounds and wants to encourage everyone to get on board with using line dancing, exercise and a health diet to feel as good as possible.  In addition to Jo Thompson Szymanski the event offered dances taught by Michael Barr and Michele Burton. Scooter and Jo host 20 Dance for the Dream Seminars across the US each year. The don't try to teach participants 100's of dances, and rather want 100's, maybe thousands, of dancers to be able to dance a group of standards, dances they can dance at most any event. When Scooter and Jo talked about standards they are talking about the dances we can learn to do correctly, and be able to dance at any event we might able to participate in. The February 13, workshop included a dance called "Cab Driver" which they use as a warm-up. The day included both instruction and social dances.

Jo, Scooter and the Dance for the Dream troupe include these dances in their seminar teaches: "Cab Driver," "I Love the Rainy Night," "Swinging Thing," "Born to Be Blue," "Puttin' On the Ritz," "Swing Low Sweet Chariot," "Jo 'n Jo Tango," "That's My Number," "A Little Singin," "Swinging Back to Louisiana," "Texas Barefootin' Double Time," "Jailhouse Creole," "Cowboy Charleston," "Louisiana Swing," "Let's Just Dance," "Triple J," "Continental Polka Alice," "Sing a New Song Dance a New Dance," "Good Time," and "Pa-Leeze." Many of the dances have accompanying Scooter Lee arrangements and these arrangements ensure proper phrasing for dancing so there are no tags and no restarts . . . that was pretty cool.

MARCH 27 "WHAT YOU MISSED" AFTERNOON WORKSHOP -- MAURICE ROWE

The December "What You Missed" workshop with Holly & Bernie Ruschman was a success and we're scheduled to review what they have been dancing at the conferences since then on Saturday March 27. We'll begin at 1 pm at a new location -- Youth DanceSport Acadamy.  Our Guest Instructor for this event will be Maurice Rowe.  The afternoon workshop will include beginner dances and Maurice will be teaching dances he's choreographed -- some you may know others new.
