Too Left Feet Basic Rumba Patterns

Rumba uses Latin footwork and Cuban motion. The rhythm is usually quick steps on one beat of music and slow steps on two beats of music. 

The Box Pattern: (Six steps) The rhythm is quick, quick, slow, quick, quick, slow. 

o The leader begins with the left foot and steps side, together, forward, side, together, back
o The follower begins with the right foot and steps side, together, back, side, together, forward

Note: Some schools/studios/instructors teach that Rumba begins with the forward slow step, instead of the quick-quick side steps.

The Box with Slow Underarm Turn pattern: (Twelve steps) The rhythm is quick, quick, slow [repeated four times]. 

o The leader begins with the left foot and steps side, together, forward, side, together, back [raising left arm], side, together, forward, side, together, back [lowers arm]. 
o The follower begins with the right foot and steps side, together, back, side, together, forward [turns right to walk in a circle] , 5 forward steps [circling right until facing the leader], forward [into leader].
